A BOOBY trap, left on a Canberra road, exploded in the face of a motorist early yesterday.
The device, resembling a bon-bon and filled with gunpowder, was attached to long strings, which became entangled in the wheels of the car in the inner-south suburb of Hughes.
The driver received minor burns when the device went off as he tried to free it. Gunpowder also went on his face and into an eye.
Police said they had not found any similar devices and hoped it was a one-off. The gunpowder probably came from firecrackers.
